The Final Embrace (2023)

I lay on the ground.
Broken and abandoned.
Anger and sadness,
Are the only things I feel.

I watch as the sun and moon pass by,
Each day and night.
Waiting.
Waiting for someone to find me.

Days turn to weeks,
Weeks to months.
So on and so forth.
Have I truly been forgotten?

During these days and nights,
I sink further into the earth.
Now I’ll be harder to find.
Forever lost.

The Earth,
She hasn’t forgotten me though.
She embraces me into her cool soil.
A reminder that she is here with me.

More time passes,
I have sunk deeper into the brisk abyss.
The Silver Maple Trees’ seedlings flutter on top of me.
Some take root and begin to grow.

Their roots slowly crawl to me.
As if it’s their duty to do so.
They entwine tightly around,
Hugging what is left of me.

They are not the only ones though.
Flowers a plenty and flora of all kind,
Come and hold me.
A soothing cocoon of warmth from above.

Their roots are strong, but gentle.
A reassurance that I am not alone.
Telling me that it’s okay to go now.
They will stay here for me.
What I feel now,
Peace and relief.
I can go on to the next journey.
Only one final thing for me to do now.

I look above and see,
Life that wasn’t here before.
Growing from what I used to be.
Tears wept from my eyes.

Some may call them a thicket of trees and shrubs.
However they stay close to me.
Cradling what is left of me.
A tribute to who I once was.

Prompt: Boscage
A mass of growing trees and shrubs; a thicket.
