One Step (2024)

Four black lines,

In the shape of a square.

Such a comforting thing,

A zone of our own creation.

Within these black lines,

We are safe.

We will never be harmed,

We will never know failure.

But within this place,

We will remain small.

Unchanging,

Never growing to our fullest potential.

Here we can stay,

And wallow away.

Or we can take one step out,

And find the courage to extend these borders.

It is a scary thing,

To think of leaving something so comforting.

Let alone doing it,

Even if it is so small.

However with one step though,

We can begin to grow.

And with another step,

The more we can begin to know.

Do not stay within you're comfort zone,

Lest you become complacent.

Take the step,

Even if it is a small one.
